Salt Care

Salt Care is a local, registered, not-for-profit, volunteer based Charity that provides benevolent relief to the homeless, the poor, the socially disadvantaged, those who suffer from mental health issues, the disabled, indigenous, elderly, and young people at risk.

Salt Care is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering positive change in the Shoalhaven community. With a mission to provide comprehensive support for individuals facing challenges such as domestic and family violence, homelessness, and other safety and well-being concerns, Salt Care offers a seamless and holistic approach. Through Salt Care Case Management and various support services, we empower individuals to rebuild their lives.

At the heart of Salt Care's mission is the commitment to creating a caring and supportive community where individuals can find peace, understanding, and the resources needed to overcome adversity. With a focus on connection and compassion, Salt Care strives to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those navigating difficult circumstances, fostering resilience and hope within the community.


Salt Assisted Housing

Salt Assisted Housing provides a safe haven for people who are transitioning from crisis accommodation to independent living. We offer a tiered support system to guests for a short, medium, or long term period of time, dependent on individual needs. Each individual or family is pastorally supported and cared for and connected to the broader Salt Community.

NDIS

Salt Care is a registered NDIS provider, providing quality, caring support to those living with a disability.  Salt Care have an amazing group of Support Workers that can work with participants on the NDIS to achieve their goals.

Salt Store

Salt Store is for people who are socially disadvantaged or struggling, to give them the opportunity to collect groceries for a gold coin donation. Each family is able to access The Salt Store once a week to help stretch the budget. We are situated at 5-19 Birriley Street, Bomaderry.  Additionally, on Thursdays, visitors have the opportunity to enjoy morning tea. Moreover, we host a clothing store at Bomaderry Community Hall on Thursdays, providing both morning tea and clothing options alongside the opportunity to collect a grocery hamper.

Warehouse

Salt Care Warehouse, the heart of our operations where all our products are stored, and where we receive and distribute donations to those in need. The warehouse works cloesly with Salt Store.

The Store receives donations from Foodbank, Second Bite, Baker’s Delight, Milkwood, South Coast Milk, Berry IGA, Flavours, and many churches, community groups, and generous individuals in the Shoalhaven. We have an amazing team of volunteers who keep the Store running each week with their friendly and generous approach to the community.

The Book Store

We have a second hand book store located in Bomaderry 12/ 73 Meroo Street, Bomaderry. If you love to read, loved to support local charity. Pop on down and see the volunteers at The Book Store in Bomaderry to grab a bargain.

If you would like to donate books, please drop them to 5-19 Birriley Street, Bomaderry Monday - Thursday 10am - 3pm.


Work Development Orders

Work Development Orders or WDOs are an opportunity for people to volunteer to pay off their fines by volunteering for Salt each week. This is a government initiative to assist those who are unable to pay fines to make a meaningful contribution to their community in the place of payment. Salt utilises people on in the WDO program in Saltbox and our Salt Store.

Mobile Response Vehicle

The Mobile Response Vehicle provides groceries, toiletries, bedding, swags, winter woollies and other necessities to people suffering from, and at risk of homelessness. The MRV is on call to attend to anyone in need as identified by rangers, community services and concerned community members.

Temporary Accommodation

Temporary Accommodation – is short-term emergency accommodation provided to assist people who are homeless or escaping domestic or family violence.

Safe Shelter Shoalhaven

Safe Shelter Shoalhaven is aimed at providing safe, emergency, overnight shelter for homeless people in our community. The Shelter provides 12 beds each night to those who would otherwise sleeping rough, as well as a nourishing dinner and breakfast for each guest.

Wellness Farm Program

Participants of the Wellness Farm day program engage in a variety of activities, including working the orchard, tending to and maintaining gardens, animal husbandry, and machinery and general maintenance. In addition to this, they also participate in developing life skills activities, such as cooking, cleaning, basic finance, and personal hygiene.

Disaster Relief

Salt Disaster Relief has been established in response to the bushfires, floods and COVID-19 pandemic that has impacted our community in 2020. Salt has had the opportunity to be on the front foot as first responders in these crises with practical support targeted to those who need it most.

Salt Care has had the opportunity to be on the front foot as first responders in these crises with practical support targeted to those who need it most, delivering food hampers and meals to COVID positive families and working closely with NSW Health.

Bush Fires

Salt Care has been working to support our bushfire affected communities throughout the emergency and the recovery. 

Salt Store

Salt Care Case Management

Salt Care Case Management and Support play a pivotal role in assisting clients who are navigating the complex and challenging circumstances of domestic violence. This dedicated service extends its support to men, women, and families, recognizing that domestic violence affects individuals from all walks of life.

The approach taken by Salt Care is holistic, aiming to provide a comprehensive and "wrap-around" support system. This means addressing not only the immediate crisis but also the broader spectrum of needs and challenges faced by clients. The services encompass emotional support, practical assistance, and guidance in rebuilding lives, all within the context of creating a supportive and caring community.


ASES Accreditation

Salt Care has achieved our ASES accreditation. 

The Australian Service Excellence Standards (ASES), is a National program designed by the South Australian Department of Human

 Services (DHS). It is a step-by-step program specifically designed to develop the capacity of community organisations to strive towards continuous improvement in quality service delivery. Organisations complete self-assessments and an external assessment to achieve this internationally recognised accreditation that lasts for three years.
